Pollution control - asbestos: Outline

Asbestos is only usually found in older houses, garage roofs, factory roofs etc. If you do have Asbestos, you do not have to worry, here are some examples of ways of removing it:

You can either remove it yourself or call in a Licenced Contractor

Unfortunately the council does not provide a service to remove or take away Asbestos, but the local Refuse Site does provide Red Bags, free of charge, to store the Asbestos in when removed. Once filled you can dispose of them at your local Refuse Site.

Domestic house holders can dispose of asbestos containing materials at only one of the civic amenity sites in the borough.

The asbestos containing material must be disposed of at an amenity tip licensed to dispose of asbestos containing materials. The only tip which will currently accept this material are Duckworth Clough Tip, Clough End Road, Haslingden ( 01706 228702)

You can find a list of all Licenced Contractors for removal of Asbestos in your local phonebook.
