Legal advice: Outline

Rossendale Borough Councils legal services provides legal advice and assistance to all other service areas within the council. Please note that legal services cannot provide legal advice to members of the public; please seek advice from a solicitor.

Legal Services

Legal Services report to the Legal Services Manager.

The aim of the service is to provide an efficient and cost effective legal service to the council, it's members and senior officers, and provides advocacy services to ensure that the council is appropriately represented in the various levels of courts and tribunals.

The section deals with the following:

Conveyancing

Provides advice and prepares documentation on buying selling and leasing of land.

Planning and Licensing

Provides advice and legal support on planning and licensing, including agreements under section 106 of the Town and Country Planning Act 1990.

Litigation

Deals with civil and criminal litigation in the County Court and Magistrates Court.

Procurement

Provides advice and assistance on the council’s procurement procedures, including compliance with E.U. procurement and negotiation of a wide range of contracts and agreements.
