Rossendale Borough Council neighbourhood forums

What are neighbourhood forums

Neighbourhood Forums are informal partnerships involving:

  • Local residents and representatives of local community groups
  • Borough and County Councillors
  • Rossendale Borough Council, Lancashire Police and Greenvale Homes.

There are four Neighbourhood Forums across Rossendale covering the areas of:

  • Haslingden
  • Rawtenstall
  • Bacup
  • Whitworth

Neighbourhood Forums have at their core the principle of promoting engagement and partnership working at the community level. Rossendale's heritage is unique and its people have a distinctly strong sense of connection to the area in which they live.  This strong sense of belonging to a place and the different social, economic, health and wellbeing challenges each community faces have shaped the development of the Neighbourhood Forums.  Over recent years they have worked effectively to build strong links with and amongst local community members as well as influencing local service delivery.  Community membership of the Neighbourhood Forums has been a particular strength and the networking and information sharing opportunities are valued by Forum members.

The Neighbourhood Forums were reviewed in March 2014 when it was agreed that they would continue as informal community meetings, outside the Council Constitution.  The four Neighbourhood Forums continue to meet, enabling the strong links that have developed through the Forums to continue.

Each Neighbourhood Forum meets three times each year, as informal community meetings, to allow networking and information sharing and agreed action points.  The meetings are chaired by a Borough Councillor and informal minutes are usually taken. Local residents are welcome to attend their local Neighbourhood Forum meetings until 31st March 2017 are below

Neighbourhood Forums can give grants of up to £500 to external organisations that can provide added value to the residents of the Borough.  The work that the grants will fund must fit in with or complement the priorities identified by the Neighbourhood Forums.
