Rossendale Borough Council

Equality and diversity

The council's equality policy

This Policy provides a framework and the overarching principles for the development and promotion of equality and diversity within service delivery and employment at the Council. The policy seeks to ensure the Council's compliance with relevant legislation as well as seeking to achieve positive outcomes for our communities and our workforce.

The council's equality duty

This duty requires public bodies like the Council to have due regard to the need to eliminate discrimination, advance equality of opportunity, and foster good relations between different people when carrying out their activities.

The council's equality objectives

The 'specific duties' of the Equality Act 2010 require the Council to publish equality objectives at least every four years.

The council's annual equality report

We collect and publish a range of equality related information as required by the Equality Duty. The key mechanism for this is our Annual Equality Report.

Equality impact assessments

An Equality Impact Assessment (EIA) is a structured and transparent way for the Council to fully understand the implications of its decisions that allows us to make sure we do not discriminate and that, where possible, we promote equality.
