Waste Management Strategy
Lancashire's Municipal Waste Management Strategy
In 2001 the Lancashire Waste Partnership signalled its ambitions for managing municipal waste in its publication "A Greener Strategy for a Greener Future".
In that strategy we committed ourselves to a number of very challenging targets and actions that would place Lancashire at the forefront of sustainable waste management in the country.
Since then we have put considerable effort and resources to keeping pace with these commitments.
Whilst recognising our achievements to date, we know that we must plan further into the future and continue to challenge our ambitions.
Following a period of extensive consultation, a revised strategy, 'Rubbish to Resources' has been produced. This represents a formal review of the entire municipal waste management strategy.
Key features include revised targets and principles, e.g.
- Recycle and compost 56% of all waste by 2015 and increase this to 61% by 2020
- Reuse, recyle and compost 70% every year at each Household Waste Recycling Centre
