Referendum on the UK's membership of the European Union in the Rossendale voting area

  

A referendum will be held on Thursday 23 June 2016 to decide on the question below:

 

Should the United Kingdom remain a member of the European Union or leave the European Union?

 

Register to vote

If you are already registered to vote in Rossendale you will not need to register seperately for the EU Referendum.  If you are unsure whether you are already registered please contact the Elections Office. 

New applications to register to vote must reach the Electoral Registration Officer by 12 midnight on Tuesday 7 June 2016. Applications can be made online: www.gov.uk/register-to-vote or by contacting the Elections Office on 01706 252445 elections@rossendalebc.gov.uk.  

Apply to vote by post

Postal vote applications, amendments or cancellations must reach the Electoral Registration Officer, Elections Office, Rossendale Borough Council, Futures Park, Bacup OL13 0BB by 5pm on Wednesday 8 June 2016. If you would like a postal vote application form to be sent to you contact the Elections Office on 01706 252445 or elections@rossendalebc.gov.uk.  If you want your postal vote sending overseas please speak to elections staff about timescales.

Apply to vote by proxy  

A proxy is a person appointed by you to vote on your behalf.  New applications to vote by proxy at this referendum must reach the Electoral Registration Officer, Elections Office, Rossendale Borough Council, Futures Park, Bacup OL13 0BB by 5pm on Wednesday 15 June 2016. Requests for changes to existing proxy vote arrangements and cancellations must reach the Electoral Registration Officer by 5pm on Wednesday 8 June 2016. If you would like a proxy vote application form to be sent to you contact the Elections Office on 01706 252445 or elections@rossendalebc.gov.uk.

Emergency proxy  

Applications to vote by emergency proxy at this referendum on the grounds of disability or for work/service reasons must reach the Electoral Registration Officer, Elections Office, Rossendale Borough Council, Futures Park, Bacup OL13 0BB by 5pm on 23 June 2016. The disability must have occurred after 5pm on Wednesday 15 June 2016. To apply on the grounds of work/service, the person must have become aware that they cannot go to the polling station in person after 5pm on Wednesday 15 June 2016.

Results

Turnout in Rossendale was 72.4%

The total number of ballot papers verified was 38,205.

The total number of eligible electors was 52,750.

The total number of votes cast for ‘REMAIN’ was 15,012

The total number of votes cast for ‘LEAVE’ was 23,169

24 Ballot papers were rejected.
