Coronavirus Update

Council Services

Cemeteries Parks and Open Spaces

Cemeteries remain open for burials and for relatives wishing to visit graves.  There is a limit of 30 people attending a funeral at all local COVID alert levels – anyone working is not included in this number

Again, we would like to reinforce the messages around social distancing for those participating in a funeral service.  Please keep your distance before, during and after the service.  Avoid gathering in car parks and adjoining spaces.  We continue to keep the situation under review and will be keen to reopen cemeteries to the general public as soon as we can.

All the borough’s parks remain open.  They provide a vital open spaces for people to exercise and get some fresh air.  We would respectfully ask that people follow the social distancing guidelines.  All our play areas are open and will remain open throughout the new National Lockdown measures which come into force on the 5th Novemeber.

Waste Collection Services

Waste and recycling collections

Our waste and recycling collections are currently operating as normal. Please put your bin out no later than 6:45am on your collection day.

If your bins are not out for collection when we visit, we cannot make a return visit. If your bin is not emptied, please report this within 48 hours and we will try to empty this as soon as possible. If after this time, please take your bin off the street until your next scheduled collection day.

Please do not leave extra bags at the side of your bin, we will not be able to collect them.

Please clean the handles of bins with disinfectant where possible before and after collection. Don’t forget to wash your hands after handling your bin.

If you are one of our trade customers and have had to temporarily close due to Government advice, please contact us at [email protected] if you wish to suspend your collections.

Delivery of new bins or bags

We are still accepting orders for bins and bags. We ask that you do this through our website. Please be aware that there may be a delay in delivering these and we will be prioritising green bins.

Garden waste

There are currently no changes to garden waste collections. If you have signed up, please continue to present your bin on the collection days stated on your sticker. We are still accepting new customers onto the service, you can sign up here.

What to do with your rubbish if you have Coronavirus or are self-isolating

Public Health England recommends that all personal waste such as used tissues and disposable cleaning cloths can be stored securely within disposable rubbish bags. These bags should then be placed into another bag, tied securely and kept separate from other waste. This should be put aside for at least 72 hours before being put in your green bin. Other household waste can be disposed of as normal. Please do not put tissues in your grey bin or green sack.

Bulky waste collections

We are still accepting requests for bulky waste collections. Please note that we are unable to provide a date of when the collection will take place and ask that you leave your items in the agreed location.

Household Waste Recycling Centres

Lancashire County Council have reopened their Haslingden site. Cars do not require an appointment to visit however, you will need to book an appointment if you plan to visit in a van or with a trailer. You can only bring one type of waste and you must be able to dispose of the waste yourself as the staff on site will not be able to help you due to social distancing. You can book an appointment and find more information here.

We also continue to operate our cost effective bulky waste service.

Recycling bring bank sites

Bring bank sites are operating as normal. However, we ask that you follow Government’s advice to stay at home and keep hold of any items until the restrictions have been lifted.

Access to streets and roads

Due to higher than normal numbers of parked cars, our crews may experience difficulty in accessing some roads and streets. Please try to park your cars considerately to allow the refuse vehicles to gain access.

Litter

We are expecting the use of our litter bins to increase and we may be unable to empty them on their normal schedule. If you see a bin that is full, please take your rubbish and dog waste home with you.

Street Cleansing

Our street cleaning teams are running at a reduced level to focus on other Council priorities where necessary. This includes street sweeping.

Keep up to date with changes

We will update social media and the website if anything changes.
