Review of Ward Boundaries by the Local Government Boundary Commission for England

In 2022 Rossendale Borough Council was notified by the Local Government Boundary Commission for England (LGBCE) that we would be undergoing a periodic ward boundary review.

On 1 September 2022 the LGBCE announced that the number of councillors would be reduced from 36 to 30 and that the wards that they represent would be reduced from 14 to 10.

From 27 September to 5 December 2022 they carried out public consultation asking local people and organisations about their communities so that when they produce their proposals they can attempt to keep communities together within the new wards.  They then published their proposals for the new ward boundaries.

From 7 March to 15 May 2023 they carried out consultation on their proposals for the new ward boundaries.  Following consultation the final ward boundaries were published on 1 August 2023.  These proposals will be laid before parliament for approval and the new arrangements will apply to local elections from May 2024.

You can find information relating to the ward boundary review here.

Now that the review has concluded we are required to create new polling districts for each of the 10 wards and then allocate suitable polling stations.  Below are the ward boundary maps for the new wards plus the proposed polling district boundary maps, please note that the polling stations listed on each map have not yet been finalised and are subject to change:
