Garage plots

Renting a garage

Do you need space to store your car, caravan, bike or garden items? Rossendale Borough Council owns land that has been identified as suitable for garage plots, this means that you will rent the land and are able to erect your own garage on the site.

How much does it cost?

The current annual rent for a garage plot is £228 per annum inc. VAT.

In addition a one off payment of £350 is required to prepare the Legal Agreement between RBC and the Tenant.

What happens once I apply?

Following and application, our Property team will be in contact with more details to begin the process of drafting an agreement.

What can I use the plot for?

Rossendale Borough Council garage plots should be used for domestic purposes only. Business and commercial use is not permitted, nor is the storage of flammable or explosive items (exclusions apply to oil and petrol and oil within a vehicle).

You will be expected to take out adequate insurance cover on all items of value stored in the garage, and all such items are kept at your own risk.

Garages should be;

  • Asbestos free
  • Maintained to a suitable standard.
  • Clearly identified as the plot you have leased by either a number or letter
  • Only be used for the purposes within the lease
  • Not extend past the boundaries of the allocated plot.

Please note: where notice is served on the garage plot the garage remains the property of the tenant and it is their responsibility to remove the structure at the end of their lease.

All tenancy agreements are subject to planning permission being obtained for your structure, a signed tenancy agreement should not be taken as an indication of a planning application, please visit the planning webpage or call 01706 21777 for more details.
