Rawtenstall is the largest town the Borough with a population of 23,000. Located just over 17 miles north of Manchester, it has good road connections via the A56. It is a typical Lancashire town boasting cobbled streets, stone architecture and dramatic landscape.

Places to Visit
Rawtenstall is the home of the last Temperance Bar in England, Mr Fitzpatrick’s, which has been making cordials and drink since 1899.
Rawtenstall Market
Rawtenstall also boasts a successful and thriving market. Rawtenstall market, Newchurch Road is currently being upgraded as part of a £4.2 million project funded by the Levelling up Fund. The project is due to be completed in Spring 2027

The area around the former Town Hall and Police Station has been redeveloped with the building of a new £3m bus station as the first phase of the Rawtenstall Masterplan. The town square boasts beautiful grassed and planted up areas, a truly eyecatching area, with events happening throughout the year. Rawtenstall's plethora of independant shops sit either side of this beautiful centre piece.
Sparrow Park
Visit Rawtenstall's very own Green Flag park, right in the centre of town. Sit and enjoy the wonderful gardens, tended to by Civic Pride Rossendale and their partners. There is so much to enjoy in this space.
East Lancashire Railway
Rawtenstall us home to a traditional railway station, and is the northern point of the East Lancs Railway the North West’s premier heritage railway
The Buffer Stops is situated inside the station, carrying a range of ales, and there is an old train carriage further down the platform serving tea and coffee.
Both steam and diesel trains run to this station, on gala days. The river Irwell runs through Rawtenstall and can be seen across the road from the station, take some bread for the ducks!
Bread Shed is nearby, baking delicious homemade treats - what is not to like!
The Whitaker Park and Museum
Nearby, the Whitaker is a stunning museum, gallery and café/ restaurant situated in the picturesque Whitaker Park.
Manr is the cafe and restaurant, operating during the day and evening, providing all museum visiters with an array of tasty food and tasting clubs if you fancy staying late! Whitker park is another beautiful green space in the centre of Rawtenstall, have a walk round, after visiting the museum for some fresh air before your dinner reservation?
