Rossendale Borough Council have announced the completion of two modern skateparks at Victoria Park in Haslingden and Edgeside Park in Waterfoot
To mark the completion of the facilities, the Council will host two official opening events in July, aimed at both wheeled sports enthusiasts and the local community.
These purpose-built facilities replace outdated equipment and were created to support a wide range of wheeled sports, designed to be inclusive for users of all ages and abilities.
Delivered in partnership with CIC Proffitts – Investing in Communities and designed by specialist firm Canvas Spaces, both projects were shaped following consultations with residents and wheeled sports users to make sure the final designs meet local needs. The developments to Victoria Park were financed by the Lancashire Environmental fund, the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, and Rossendale Borough Council, while improvements to Edgeside Park were made possible through joint funding from the FCC Communities Foundation and the Council.
Councillor Adrian Lythgoe, Portfolio Holder for Environment and Corporate Services, said: “The completion of both skateparks is a major investment in the health and wellbeing of our communities. Designed with strong input from local residents and young people, they reflect our ongoing commitment to creating high-quality public spaces that support active lifestyles and bring people together.
“We’re excited to mark their opening with two celebration events this July, and I’d encourage everyone to come along, enjoy the new facilities, and be part of the community spirit that made these projects possible.”
Both celebration events are free and open to the local community. They will include competitions with prizes for different wheeled sports categories, live music, local food vendors, and a formal opening by the Mayor of Rossendale.
