Rossendale Borough Council has announced that three of the Borough’s green spaces have been awarded the internationally accredited Green Flag Award for 2025
Rawtenstall Library Gardens, Whitworth Memorial Garden, and Stubbylee and Moorlands Park in Bacup have each received the award, recognising their high environmental standards, exceptional maintenance, and strong community involvement.
Stubbylee and Moorlands Park, a focal point in Bacup combines heritage features with play areas, making it a hub for families. While Rawtenstall Library Gardens and Whitworth Memorial Garden offer a peaceful retreat, maintained with support from their local community.
Councillor Adrian Lythgoe, Portfolio Holder for Environment and Corporate Services, said: "We are absolutely delighted that three of our prestigious parks and gardens have received Green Flag Awards this year.
“This is a testament to the hard work of our dedicated staff, volunteers, and community groups who take immense pride in caring for these spaces. These awards show that local people and visitors alike are benefitting from green spaces of the very highest quality."
The Green Flag Award scheme, managed by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy under licence from the Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government, recognises and rewards well-managed parks and green spaces, setting the benchmark standard for the management of green spaces across the United Kingdom and around the world.

This achievement forms part of the Council’s Valley Plan 2025-2029, supporting the ongoing transformation of Rossendale’s town centres and public spaces, creating vibrant, welcoming areas that people are proud to live in, work in, and visit.
