Rossendale Borough Council is inviting local residents, businesses, and community groups to share their views on the revised Bacup Market redevelopment
The scheme has been updated to align more closely with local priorities and to support Bacup’s broader regeneration, taking into account changes required by statutory planning regulations and revised construction costs.
The new designs were presented to the Bacup 2040 Board, who approved the vision for the site as part of the town’s long-term improvements. The proposals include a prominent canopy structure and tiered seating, framing a mix of traditional market stalls and flexible open space for events and community gatherings.
As part of the consultation process, the Council has published an online survey and is hosting a drop-in session where attendees can view presentation boards and computer-generated images of the proposed design.
The drop-in session will take place on Monday 22nd September from 4:00pm to 6:00pm at the AB&D Centre, Bacup.
Lead Member for Regeneration, Councillor Nick Harris said: “Bacup Market is a key part of the town’s wider regeneration plans, helping to create a vibrant, welcoming space for residents, businesses, and visitors. This is your opportunity to shape how the market will look and feel, and ensure it reflects the community’s priorities.
“We encourage everyone to take part in the drop-in sessions or complete the survey online, your feedback will help us deliver a project that supports Bacup’s long-term growth and prosperity.”
This redevelopment forms part of the Council’s strategy to create a vibrant town centre that supports local businesses, community activity, and the overall regeneration of Bacup.
