Rawtenstall's temporary market has reached an important milestone as cranes moved in to position market kiosks on the town square.
This important step keeps the market trading, animates the town square and supports local businesses during the redevelopment of the main market site on Newchurch Road.
The crane works will conclude this week and are part of a carefully planned programme to support construction on the town square wrapping up in late December, traders will be ready to move into their new temporary home in early January.
Contractor RLX is now working alongside Rossendale Borough Council and market traders to make the move as smooth as possible. The temporary site will provide a welcoming and practical trading space right in the heart of the town centre, keeping the market buzzing with activity throughout the redevelopment.
Councillor Nick Harris, Lead Member for Regeneration, said: "Seeing the cranes arrive and the kiosks taking shape is a real sign of progress. This move protects our traders' businesses and keeps the market at the heart of Rawtenstall's economy while we deliver the improvements everyone's been waiting for.
"We're now in the home stretch before traders move in early next year. This means Rawtenstall keeps its vibrant market atmosphere and all the benefits it brings to our town centre during this exciting period of investment."

The temporary market opens in early January on Rawtenstall Town Square, conveniently located near the bus station and shops. This allows the main market transformation to begin – a key part of the wider investment bringing new life to Rawtenstall.
Businesses in the bus station remain open throughout the duration of the works.
