Bacup Bowls

This May, Rossendale shines a light on Bowls as part of its wider Year of Sport campaign, inviting residents of all ages to try something new

Throughout May 2026, local bowls clubs across the borough are opening their doors for a series of free “come and try” sessions. Designed to be inclusive and accessible, these sessions welcome complete beginners as well as those looking to return to the sport. There’s no need to book or bring any equipment, participants can simply turn up and join in.

Upcoming sessions include:

  • Saturday 16 May – Bacup Bowling Club (10am–12pm)
  • Sunday 17 May – Greenfield Bowling Club, Haslingden (from 1:30pm)
  • Saturday 23 May – CPA Bowling Club (1pm–4pm)

These events showcase the key benefits of bowls, combining light physical activity with opportunities for social connection and improved mental wellbeing, all within a friendly, community-focused setting.

The local initiative aligns with the national Bowls’ Big Summer 2026 campaign, running from May through to September, which aims to inspire a new generation of players. With anticipation building ahead of the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, bowls is set to gain increased national attention, encouraging more people to discover the sport at their local clubs.

For those keen to continue, clubs across Rossendale will offer opportunities throughout the summer, including casual play, coaching sessions, and flexible pay-and-play options, helping people stay active, connected, and engaged in their community.
