Mayor of Rossendale with representatives from Carer's Link Lancashire charity

The Mayor of Rossendale has presented three local charities with donations totalling £7,750, following a full year of community fundraising across the borough.

On Thursday 7th May, representatives from Bacup Pride, Kids in Rossendale and Carer’s Link Lancashire were welcomed to the Rossendale Borough Council Chamber at Futures Park to meet the Mayor and her charity committee and receive their cheques.

Bacup Pride is a volunteer‑run group dedicated to improving the appearance of the town, encouraging community spirit and tackling anti‑social behaviour. Their work includes litter‑picking, planting and maintaining green spaces, and bringing residents together to take pride in their area.

Carer’s Link Lancashire supports unpaid carers across East Lancashire, offering information, guidance and training to help carers feel valued and improve their health and wellbeing.

Kids in Rossendale supports disadvantaged children across the borough, including those affected by ill health, disability, financial hardship or challenging circumstances. The charity has supported more than 1,000 local children and also helps community groups such as sports clubs and youth organisations.

Throughout the year, the Mayor and her charity committee organised a series of fundraising events, including coffee mornings, charity meals, a Christmas at Home event, a summer BBQ, a garden party, afternoon tea and a ‘New to You’ clothing event. The Annual Charity Ball, held at The Ashcroft on Friday 20th March, raised £2,903.50 towards the final total.

Rossendale Mayor, Cllr Michelle Smith said: “I would like to thank my Mayoress, Jackie Oakes, and everyone on my charity committee for their hard work and support throughout the year. I would also like to thank everyone who attended an event, came to the charity ball or made a donation. None of this would have been possible without your support.”
