Staghills and edgeside rossendale works

Rossendale Works continues to support residents through tailored health, physical activity and wellbeing support.

A new support programme in Staghills and Edgeside is already making a real difference, helping three local residents into work within its first two months and supporting more than 20 others to build confidence, learn new skills and improve their wellbeing.

Launched by Rossendale Borough Council in April 2026, Rossendale Works offers tailored employment, training and community support designed around the needs of local people.

The programme works closely with residents and community organisations to help people overcome barriers to work or training, creating welcoming sessions where they can gain confidence, develop skills and take positive steps towards employment.

Rossendale Works Programme Manager, Paul Beaucorn, said:

"Rossendale Works is about creating opportunities that work for local people. By listening to residents and working alongside trusted community partners, we're helping people build confidence, develop new skills and access the support they need to become work ready, while improving their overall wellbeing.

"The early results from Staghills and Edgeside have been really encouraging, and we're looking forward to supporting even more residents as the programme grows."

One participant said:

"I didn't know where to start when looking for work, but Rossendale Works made it feel manageable. The sessions and support gave me the skills and motivation I needed, and I've now secured a job, which is a massive step forward for me."

Another added:

"It's not just about finding work. The support has been amazing and it's made a real difference to my confidence and wellbeing."

Supported through Pride in Place, Rossendale Works has introduced a range of activities across Staghills and Edgeside as part of a wider programme to strengthen local communities and help more people move towards employment.

The programme has been built on strong local partnerships. Weekly football sessions with Lancashire Football Association encourage physical activity, volunteering and confidence building, while Bacup Borough FC provides back-to-work support, one-to-one advice and opportunities to connect with local employers.

Residents can also develop their digital skills through workshops at Newchurch Methodist Church using the Learning Zone platform, while St Anne's Church in Edgeside hosts fitness sessions alongside employment advice and community support. Participants also benefit from free gym memberships provided by Rossendale Leisure Trust.

With three residents already in work and more than 20 others taking part in activities, workshops and training, Rossendale Works is continuing to create opportunities across Staghills and Edgeside.

By bringing together local people and community partners, the programme is helping residents build brighter futures while creating stronger, healthier and more connected communities.
