Where We Cut Grass

We are responsible for the maintenance and grass cutting of approximately 55 hectares of public open space across the borough.

In addition to our own land, we also maintain certain areas on behalf of Lancashire County Council.

We cut the grass on all council owned land, this includes the upkeep of

  • Parks and public open space
  • Recreation grounds
  • Childrens play areas
  • Football and Multi Use Games Areas (MUGA)
  • Cemeteries
  • Selected churchyards
  • Bowling greens
  • Roadside grass verges
  • Town centres
  • Memorial gardens

Where we do not cut the grass

As part of our commitment to supporting biodiversity and improving the local living landscape, some grassed areas are intentionally left longer to provide habitats and food sources for wildlife and pollinators.

In locations where spring bulbs have been planted, grass cutting is delayed for approximately six weeks after flowering. This allows the bulbs to replenish their energy naturally and helps ensure a healthy display in future seasons.

  • Where bulbs have been planted
  • Where we're keeping the grass long to attract bees
