The Council controls dangerous buildings under Sections 77 and 78 of the Building Act 1984.

We respond to all reports of dangerous buildings, walls and structures within the borough on a 24 hour 365 day a year basis.

If a structure presents a potential danger to the safety of people, we will take action to remove the danger. We have legal powers to require the owners of buildings or structures to remedy the defects. If needed, we will direct our contractors to carry out works to make the structure safe. Additionally, we provide advice to the fire brigade on the structural condition of buildings during firefighting, or to the police in the case of vehicular damage.

You can contact us during office hours using the below details or out of normal working hours on our Emergency Switchboard on 0300 222 5946.

You can use our online form to report dangerous structures. If you are concerned with the safety of a pavement or highway, this should be reported to Lancashire County Council Highways.
