Leadership Model Referendums
The government wants to offer local communities the opportunity to make a choice about the way in which they are governed.
The local authority must operate either:
- A mayor and cabinet executive
- A leader and cabinet executive
- A committee system
We currently operate under a leader and cabinet model.
If the local community decide they would prefer to have a different form of governance they can petition the Council. If more than 5% of the Council's registered electorate petition us, a referendum would be held.
