Apply for Housing Benefit

Anybody who is liable to pay rent can claim, as long as:

  • you have savings of less than £16,000 (unless you are in receipt of Pension Credit (Guaranteed Credit)
  • and are over 16 years of age
  • receiving Income Support, Jobseekers Allowance (income-based), Pension Credit or living on a low income.

Universal Credit Changes

From 1st January 2018, there will be no new claims awarded for Universal Credit, this means you will need to claim Housing Benefit. For those already in receipt of Universal Credit your claim will remain active. If you have claimed Universal Credit in the last six months you will need to reclaim Universal Credit.

From 14th February 2018, residents living in certain postcodes will be eligible to make a new claim for Universal Credit.

These are customers with the following post codes:

  • BB1 1
  • BB1 2
  • BB1 3
  • BB1 5
  • BB1 6
  • BB1 7
  • BB1 8
  • BB1 9
  • BB5 2

From 16th May 2018, residents living in certain postcodes will be eligible to make a new claim for Universal Credit.

These are customers with the following post codes:

  • OL12 0

From 25th July 2018, residents living in certain postcodes will be eligible to make a new claim for Universal Credit.

This means that from 14th February 2018, customers living in Rossendale who don’t have one of the BB1 or BB5 postcodes listed above, from 16th May 2018 for customers who don't have an OL12 postcode listed above, or from 25th July 2018 for customers who don't have a BL8 or BL9 postcode listed above, will need to make a claim for Housing Benefit, unless you have had a live claim for Universal Credit in the last six months, in which case you should reapply for Universal Credit.
