Apply for Housing Benefit and Universal Credit

Apply for Housing Benefit

From the 16th January 2019 we are no longer accepting claims for Housing Benefit unless you fall into one of the following categories:

  • You or your partner are state pension credit age. If you are not sure, you can check your state pension age online.
  • You live in temporary or supported accommodation.
  • There are three or more children in your household and you have not claimed Universal Credit in the last six months.
  • You are entitled to (or have been within the last month) an award of income support, income related employment and support allowance, income based  jobseekers allowance, housing benefit THAT INCLUDED an award of a severe disability premium.
  • If you do not fall into any of these categories, then you must apply for Universal Credit.

    Universal Credit does not include Council Tax Support which can still be claimed from Rossendale Borough Council via this form

Apply for Housing Benefit

Anybody who is liable to pay rent can claim, as long as:

  • you have savings of less than £16,000 (unless you are in receipt of Pension Credit (Guaranteed Credit)
  • and are over 16 years of age
  • receiving Pension Credit.
  • You or your partner are state pension credit age. If you are not sure, you can check your state pension age online.
  • You live in temporary or supported accommodation..

If you claim Universal Credit, you will need to claim Council Tax support separately
