Description

Whitworth Memorial Gardens is an award winning green space and Centenary Field commemorating the fallen of World War One. It features a prominent stone obelisk cenotaph, beautiful David Austin rose beds, a dedicated area for the town's brass band, and a dry-stone wall adorned with decorative poppies.

History

Whitworth Memorial Gardens where officially opened in August, 1921. The peaceful sanctuary is a tribute to the fallen in the first and second World Wars, its centerpiece is a stone obelisk inscribed with the names of local heros.

Today the Gardens are maintained by the Whitworth in Bloom volunteers, Rossendale Borough Council employees and further enhanced by local community groups for all ages.
