Description

Stubbylee and Moorlands Park are two adjoining, award winning parks, surrounded by steep, wooded hillsides and lush countryside they feature a mix of tranquil woodland, formal gardens and a blend of modern and natural recreational facilities perfect for visitors of all ages.

History

Originally the private 19th-century estate of the wealthy Holt family, the grounds were transformed into a municipal park after being bequeathed to the town. Today, the parks serve as the borough's premier Green Flag accredited recreation areas.

In the 21st century, local community groups (such as Bacup Pride and Friends of Stubbylee Park) teamed up with Rossendale Borough Council to heavily fund and revitalize the space. Improvements include a £120,000 concrete skate and wheeled sports area, an £80k natural-material play area, and a refurbished duck pond walkway.
